Dengue Alert in Sayulita
September 24, 2009 3 Comments
I’ve been asked lately to confirm if there’s dengue in Sayulita and how bad it is. Unfortunately the answer is YES there is dengue in Sayulita, and it has been running from the mild symptoms to the hemorragic dengue. The only way to avoid the infection is by avoiding the mosquito bite, so please follow the recommendations stated here.
In case of having any of the symptoms, don’t hesitate in seeking medical attention inmediatly.

Hi,
My name is John and I teach in the Tec de Monterrey in Guadalajara. A group of my students and I are doing a little social experiment using social networks (blogs like this one, facebook, twitter and our website nodengue.mx) to see if we can have an impact on the action that people take to prevent dengue. There are two parts to the nodengue.mx site:
1) nodengue.mx – where people can read about the dengue, the mosquito that carries dengue and actions you can take to prevent getting dengue. The site is in a beta stage…
2) http://reporta.nodengue.mx – this is where you can upload reports about three things to do with dengue
a) cases of dengue b) sightings of the mosquito c) actions that you have taken to prevent breeding. The idea of the map is to encourage people to share information in a transparent way with their neighbours/community. That way everybody can make informed decisions. In addition, people can see what other people are doing in their neighbourhood to prevent the mosquito from breeding. If you are the only one who is taking action and all your neighbours are doing nothing, the risk of getting dengue is only slightly reduced. (the dengue mosquito can travel up to 300m from the place where it contracts dengue).
The project is in its early days, but we believe that while the government has a responsibility to help reduce cases of dengue, the most effective way to prevent the disease is to take some action ourselves! And once you take this action, share it!
John
Hi John! thanks for sharing. I just want you to notice that the website would be even better if it could be also in english.
Saludos!
Hi Dr. Moy,
Yes we are going to get cracking with English pages too. I will keep you posted with new things that get uploaded on the site. In the meantime, feel free to encourage people to add to the map – http://reporta.nodengue.mx – it is up and running! With both English and Spanish keys…
