This is by far, the most Frequently Asked Question to me on this days, and my answer remains the same: There’s NO reported case of Influenza in Sayulita and it IS SAFE to come to Sayulita at this moment
As stated in the official websites for Influenza info in Mexico http://www.prevencioninfluenza.gob.mx and the WHO and CDC website (www.who.int & www.cdc.gov) there is NO evidence of any case of Influenza A/H1N1 aka swine flu in the states of Nayarit (Sayulita) and its neighbors, Jalisco, Colima and Sinaloa.
The more recent report from the WHO at this moment is # 8.1: http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_05_01a/en/index.html and you can read there the next recommendation that I quote:
“WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities”.
Also in the remote case of an outbrake in the area, here in the office we are prepared to follow the national and international recommendations for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of suspicious and confirmed cases of Influenza A/H1N1.
I think there’s no reason to be concerned and the risk of getting infected at this moment in Sayulita is from the minimum to nothing.
Also, until further notice, I have decided to stay in town in a 24/7 shift for any eventuality.
Best regards,
Dr. Moy Cuevas
