The Health Department in Mexico has issued a national alert this week to identify and report any suspicious case of seasonal Influenza infection types A and B. There is doubt among the media and the population, if there’s a need to vaccinate everybody.
In Mexico the flu season goes from November to March, but this year it has been extended until April and possibly May, as there have been recent cases of infection in young adults.
Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral disease, as the common cold, and can occur in mild, moderate or severe intensity. In case of any complications, medical treatment and hospitalization might be required.
This disease is transmitted directly from infected individuals, through saliva, nasal and/or bronchial secretions, which are transmitted while coughing, sneezing or simply talking. It is also transmitted in an indirect manner on surfaces or objects that have been contaminated by these secretions.
The goal is to immunize the population that was not vaccinated at the start of the season, with an emphasis on healthcare personnel as they are frequently exposed to respiratory viruses.
If you still do not receive your vaccine, please contact us for more guidance in this regard.
